National Youth Organizer Hopeful has Cautioned GNAT

*GNAT MUST HALT INTENDED VICTIMIZATION OF NDC MEMBERS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT*

It has come to our attention attempts by the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to hound out their members who are perceived to be card-bearing members of the NDC holding Executive positions within the party, from occupying Executive positions in the Association at the same time.

It must be pointed out in clear and unequivocal terms to the leadership of GNAT, that Freedom of Association (including political association) is an inalienable right bestowed upon every citizen of Ghana, including members of the NDC, by the 1992 Constitution. GNAT cannot therefore continue to maintain any alien clause or provision in its own constitution that debars its Executive members from holding Executive positions in any political party including the NDC. This arbitrary decision does not only fly in the face of reason, but it also violates a landmark Supreme Court ruling permitting public servants to hold positions in political parties.

GNAT must therefore abandon all such plans to yank NDC members off their Executive positions in the Association because such a decision is a clear violation of the laws of Ghana and the fundamental human rights of individuals. We are giving GNAT no other option than to abandon their illegal threat, or we will be compelled to call on all NDC members within GNAT to resign from the Association and join any other Teacher Union of their choice.
